Civic Kids

‘Real-life’ skills and engagement with government and decision-makers about community issues.

Explore our world together.

Students developed concepts of government and democracy, also awareness of local history. Through museum excursions, workshops, public art exhibitions and executive meetings, students collated feedback from local residents’ in terms of what were some of the important aspirations for community, physical and cultural. Students were encouraged to diplomatically negotiate and communicate with influence.

The group of young people attended a Council meeting as a way to communicate their concerns directly with local government decision-makers. They received excellent feedback for their presentation and Councillors fulfilled the students’ request. Civic Kids reinforces the significance of enabling the voice of young people and how this can have positive outcomes for communities.
